Expressive Art Class for Kids
April 27, 2021, 4:00pm – 5:00pm
Free
The Expressive Art Class for Kids is a weekly gathering space for kids from immigrant backgrounds in Oakland. The workshop is a creative space for children to express themselves through art and creativity, exploring activities such as free drawing, foldable self-portraits, painting, movement exercises, meditation, creating sensory boards and sensory bottles, free dance, freeze tag, and other fun interactive activities that will let youth explore art without pressure or strict rules. Our activity leaders follow the principle of guiding, not telling, letting kids be kids in a stress-free environment that nurtures creativity and exploration.
The weekly workshops will take place at the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants (CERI), a community and mental health space for refugees, who will support the class with friendly and engaging staff who will check in with the participants to encourage a welcoming and stress-free environment. Self esteem exercises will encourage conversation and emotional expression, creating a safe space for kids to express themselves through activities and art.
For kids who have been stuck inside, our camp provides children with the perfect space to express themselves with art, releasing the pent-up energy with some much-needed fun!
