Join us for a transformative zine-making workshop that amplifies marginalized voices and nurtures creativity.
Facilitated by seasoned zine creator and the executive director of San Francisco Zine Fest Anand Vedawala, this empowering 5-week workshop provides a nurturing and inclusive space for individuals from immigrant and refugee backgrounds to share their stories, perspectives, and insights through the art of zine-making.
Through collaborative discussions and hands-on activities, participants will explore the power of self-expression and community building while learning the beauty and basics of this handcrafted art. No prior experience required—just an open heart and a willingness to uplift important narratives. Participants will have the opportunity to present their completed zines at a public showcase celebration at the end of the workshop and pitch their work to the 2024 SF Zine Fest.
Thanks to the generous support of California Arts Council and YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative, participants will receive $50 for the production of their zines (materials and printing), and an additional $150 stipend at the completion of the workshop.
Space is limited; application is required to participate. Priority will be given to participants who can commit to all five sessions. Application opens until Feb 10th, and we will email confirmation of your participation by Feb 12th.
