Overlap Exhibition

December 15, 2020 – April 17, 2021 • Bayfair Center in San Leandro

Curated by Andrea Guskin, Overlap: Home, Immigration and Identity features the work of Somaieh Amini, Roya Ebtehaj, and Nimisha Doongarwal, three female immigrant artists of color living in the Bay Area. Overlap is a visual conversation on the immigrant experience, on identities that are multifaceted, changing, and carry in them places, history, and stories.

The works are on view at the Bayfair Center in San Leandro, along with a presentation by Andrea Guskin of her project “From Where to Here.” Overlap seeks to showcase the work of under-represented Bay Area communities, and also reimagines a shopping center as a place for art and community gathering.

Held during the Covid-19 pandemic, Overlap is ARTogether’s first art exhibition to also feature a full virtual art exhibition, giving space to artists disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Launched at the exhibition’s Opening Reception, the Overlap virtual exhibition uses the Topia platform to create a complete, interactive environment, allowing visitors to walk through a one-of-a-kind virtual world created exclusively for the exhibition, stopping along the way to interact with the artwork and chat with other visitors. The virtual exhibition will be available until May 1, 2021.
