Shadow Movements

High School participants  in “Shadow Movements” will blend traditional shadow puppetry with filmmaking, to tell their stories through a combination of old artistic techniques and new media. Guest artists will mentor participants to first write personal stories,  to record  voice-overs of their stories in interesting ways, to create shadow puppets based on original character-designs, and to bring those shadow puppets to life through animation. Students will finish the program with their own animated short films!

Following the end of the workshops the final film will be screened in a public arts event hosted by ARTogether the following fall.

This program may include field trips to recording studios, local history walks, or Pixar Animation Studios.

This workshop series will be held by ARTogether’s Public Arts Program. You can check out a similar past co-created shadow puppetry and animation project led by Sabina Kariat here.

Program Facilitator: Sabina Kariat
Guest Artists: Paola Ramirez, Jess Nguyen, Angie Chaparro

This program will run after school weekly February through May, with a public arts event the following fall.
